In this episode of The Business Tea Podcast, Sarah and Ross talk about why this podcast exists, where the idea came from, and what we believe has gone wrong with modern marketing advice - especially for small and growing businesses.
In this episode, we share how years of working across agencies, in-house roles, and global brands naturally turned into constant conversations between us - sense-checking ideas, venting about frustrations, celebrating wins, and asking, “Is this normal?”. Over time, we realised something important: not everyone building a business has someone to talk marketing with - and that can feel incredibly isolating.

This episode is about creating an open version of those conversations. A place for people who don’t have a marketing team, a business bestie, or clear answers - and who are tired of feeling overwhelmed by conflicting advice, trends without context, and pressure to “do everything.”

We talk honestly about why so much marketing advice feels unhelpful, how too much information can create guilt and paralysis, and why feeling overwhelmed is rarely your fault. Most importantly, we share what we believe marketing should feel like: clear, supportive, intentional, and human - with proper instructions, not unnecessary complexity.
